Re: avi to swf
Sat, August 18, 2007 - 10:59 AMI think what you are really looking for is a movie (AVI or MOV) to FLV converter. The SWF file will play the FLV file and give you a nice looking control panel with volume, rewind, pause controls and so on.
The best and cheapest way ($29.99) to convert to FLV is to simply purchase Quicktime Pro 7.0.
There is a caveat, however. You must have Flash installed on the same machine as Quicktime Pro for the export FLV to show up in the Quicktime dialog box. The flash demo may enable this feature, but I don't know because I have never tried it.
So render out of adobe pro to quicktime mov.
The reason you want to use Quicktime is because Quicktime is the only converter that embeds progress information directly into the FLV files (even the macromedia converter does not do this for some reason). If you simply convert an AVI with the built-in flash encoder, you do not get the progress information. Without progress information in your FLV, you will not be able to "scrub" your final web video.
You could always upload you AVI to You Tube, let them convert it, watch the video and then "fish" it out of your internet cache. Just a thought...
