Do any of you have suggestions for the best companies to handle DVD encoding and/or manufacturing in Northern California. I was using a company in L.A. that is full service but I wasn't too pleased with the outcome. Would love any referrals to companies that you out there have used. Also, any warnings against places that do shoddy work would be appreciated. I am quite meticulous and want a place or placesthat really do good quality control.

What, as specifically as you can describe, do you need done? What do you have right now?

I am working on a project that was originally shot on many different formats (mini-dv, hi-8, super 8, 35mm etc. ) All of the footage was dropped to mini-dv then cloned to DVCAM to make it easier to work with.
I will need a facility that can handle the whole replication process-- not duplication. The disc will be a DVD-9 and might have mutiple discs included in the final package. This project needs to be retail ready. The facility should be able to replicate and package the project with a run of 1.000- 3,000 copies to start with. No need to have package design services. I most likely won't need authoring services either. I want a place that is really good and clean and will treat a customer with small runs as carefully as larger customers. Any place come to mind? -

I'm curious, what is the difference between "duplication" and "replication"?
-
-
Duplication is what we can usually do ourselves - digital copying onto DVD-R media. Replication involves the use of a glass master disk to manufacture bulk quantities of DVDs. Hollywood movies are typically replicated. Usually we duplicate up to about 1,000 copies... Anything more than that, we'd go for replication.
