I'm new to dvd creating. I want to keep my old Dell for office work, & get a new machine for all the movie work. So when I got to buy the new machine, is it worthwhile to switch to mac or better to stick with windows?

Re: new pc or mac?
Fri, January 26, 2007 - 12:34 PMSony Vegas & Sony DVD on a PC Platform is great especially with dual core CPU, lots of ram and fast video card..Rain Recording systems are top notch. Check out their computers. You can get a older G4 Mac and beef it up and do well also.

Re: new pc or mac?
Fri, January 26, 2007 - 8:28 PMMACs are wonderful. I stick with PCs because even after suffering with M$ software you can still buy a lot of memory and disk for a lot less. You can buy are high end server with duel or even quad xeons with hyperthreading that gives almost the performance of four or eight processors. The price performance is still in the pCs favor.

Re: new pc or mac?
Sat, January 27, 2007 - 7:34 AMI'd suggest a Mac mini. They are inexpensive, have all the software for DVD creation pre-installed, and are easy to use. Alternatively, an iMac is also a good choice.
What are your plans for movie making? Are you looking at producing DVDs for distribution, or just home movies? -

Re: new pc or mac?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 9:41 AMthank you all for your suggestions. I'm a dance teacher so want to have class material available for students who want to practise at home - so small distribution. So far I"m leaning toward mac even though I know nothing about using them - but Windows increasingly worries me - -

Re: new pc or mac?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 1:42 PMAh, you must be who my wife was asking questions for the other day. ;-)
There is a learning curve for the Mac, but it isn't too hard, and the Mac groups online (here or in Apple's support forums) are full of helpful folk, which made my switch much easier.

Re: new pc or mac?
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 8:40 AMFor any kind of graphics or vid work I would suggest a Mac. Only for functionality sake. Yes, PC is easier to upgrade the memory, but the hassles with other factors (compatability, viruses, Snood, etc.) would probably interfere. Mac rarely crashes and works well. -

Re: new pc or mac?
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 10:24 AMforgive me. My sarcasm has betrayed my ignorance. I was under the impression, from friends of mine, that Snood was an online Yahoo game that could be played on any platform. And since they have a PC, I again was assuming. Thank you, Edward. -

Re: new pc or mac?
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 12:02 PM(my wife TOTALLY got hooked on Snood when she had a boyfriend with a Mac, and it was a Mission for me to find a PC port for it)
I had no idea it was online. Oh dear, I better not tell her... -

Re: new pc or mac?
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 6:45 AMAnother suggestion is to see if there is a Mac User Group in your area - there probably is,and if they are anything like the local one here, they'll be excited and happy to help you out as you get started with your new Mac.
As well, don't hesitate to call Applecare. When I "switched", I would call them up with the questions when I couldn't figure something out.
